Octoberfest!
On October 15th the CT Tigers annual Octoberfest, The event was a fun filled day with Chilli, beer and music! Thank you to all of our fans who came out and joined us for this succussful event. Congratulations to C.J. Knudsen on winning the Chilli competition with his Thors thunderous revenge.

We’re Back!!!
Hello there Connecticut Tigers fans! The Tale of The Tigers blog is back from a mini vacation.. We’ll keep you posted of all of the different activity’s going on at Dodd Stadium this offseason.
Playoff Push Homestand
The Tigers completed their final homestand of the regular season this week.

Jeff Holm was named Player of the Game. The Michigan State product went 2-4 with a triple and scored a run as the Tigers won 5-0 to take the Stedler Division lead.
Cars from Thompson Motor Speedway were out front,
as the Nickelodeon Quartet, the national anthem signers, warmed up their voices on the concourse.
Montville High School Baseball, the 2-time defending Class M State Champions, was recognized for their accomplishments before the game.
There was a doubleheader on Friday night.
In Game 1, Tigers’ pitcher Luis Angel Sanz was 2 outs away from a perfect game. After retiring 19 Spinners batters in a row, Lowell’s Jose Garcia belted a 3-2 Sanz offering over the wall in left field to not only break up the perfect game, but also to take away the shutout. The right hander from Guatire, VZ earned his team-leading sixth win of the year and lowered his ERA to 2.81 on the season, while he struck out seven and now leads the league with 76 strikeouts this year.
Following the pair of Tigers wins, “Wild Bill” from Comix at Foxwoods performed for fans and the final fireworks show of the season occured. 
Saturday was Norwich Navigators Night
The refurbished Tater Statue made its return.
A new generation of kids will now be able to have their picture taken in front of the Tater Statue, a permanent fixture at Dodd Stadium for many seasons, before games.
The first 500 fans received a Navigators’ mini bat. (Blame “Tropical Storm Irene” for the date change).
Former Navigator Jeff Clark threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Shane wore a game worn Navigators jersey from 1995 Saturday night.
The videoboard graphics were changed to reflect the night.
Players wore Navigators jerseys, which were auctioned off to fans during the game.
The players then presented and signed their jersey to the winning bidders after the game.
Sunday afternoon was Fan Appreciation Day.
The entire team was on the concourse to greet fans as gates opened; signing autographs,
and taking pictures.
As always, children could run the bases
and play catch on the field following the game.
The Tigers’ thank fans for attending the games this season. Your support is greatly appreciated. See you in 2012.

“Hurricane Homestand” Recap: August 26, 27
First, the Tigers hope that everyone is safe following the visit of Hurricane Irene this weekend. (Photo from PrintActivities.com)
The Tigers were home Friday and Saturday with a cruical series against the Vermont Lake Monsters. The two home games, plus two games in Vermont tonight, have the potential to alter the Stedler Division standings. As of this morning, Connecticut sits a half game out of first place behind the Lake Monsters.

All children recieved a book from the Captain Underpants series, sponsored by Scholastic.
Covanta Energy collected non-perishable food items.
Comedian Roddy Thomas, sponsored by Comix at Foxwoods, performed
before the fireworks show following the Tigers victory.
Because of the storm, the Tigers moved the game up to 1:05 pm instead of the originally scheduled 7:05 pm.
Dean Green scored the only run for the Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers will begin the final homestand of the regular season this Tuesday with 3 games against Hudson Valley and 4 against the Lowell Spinners.
Friday’s game is a doubleheader with Game 1 scheduled to begin at 5:05.
Saturday will be Norwich Navigators Night
Sunday afternoon is Fan Appreciation Day.

Tails From the Road – Aberdeen
The Tigers have been in Aberdeen for the past few days, finishing up their 3-game road trip tonight.
The IronBirds play at Ripken Stadium
The stadium, built in 2002, has sold out all of its games since its opening
and is home to the Ripken Museum.
The stadium is part of a larger baseball complex, which includes Little League fields. The field above is a miniture Camden Yards. The Warehouse in right doubles as a Marriott, and is where the Tigers stay.
The Tigers return home Friday
and Saturday for 2 important games against Vermont.
Homestand Recap: August 17-22
The Tigers completed a 7-game, 6-day home stand on Monday.
A few roving instructors were in “The Rose City” for the homestand, sent by Detroit to help finetune some players’ techniques.
Toby Harrah helped with the hitters,
Dave Owen assisted with the infielders fielding techniques, while Gene Roof gave instruction in the areas of base running and playing the outfield.
The added instruction must have helped the team’s on-field results, as the Tigers took 5 of 7 games from the Yankees and IronBirds.

The two Tigers outfielders signed autographs on the concourse with former MLB pitcher Frank Tanana, the headline speaker of the Home Plate Event.
Tanana also threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
The homestand also marked the debut of a brand new promotion, the Affinity Dental Center Brush off the Bases.
Sunday was Bark in the Park at the stadium and many fans brought their dog(s) to the game.
Promotions also had a canine-theme to them.
Old Lyme’s Ryan Zrenda had a large contigent of supporters in the stands all series to see him play for the IronBirds.
Tyler Collins and Javier Azcona hit home runs for the Tigers.
The Tigers are home again Friday and Saturday with a cruical series against the Vermont Lake Monsters. The Lake Monsters lead the Stedler Division and the Tigers look to use the games to make up ground in the standings.
Friday there will be post-game fireworks
and Saturday will be Norwich Navigators Night.

Blood Drive
Today a blood drive will be held at the stadium.
The drive will commence in a few minutes and go until 6:45, shortly before the first pitch is thrown of tonight’s game.
Team Sets
Today the 2011 Connecticut Tigers’ team sets arrived.
In addition to the numerous sets, Choice Sportscards , the manufactuer of the sets, sent 50 extra cards of each player.
These cards go to each player for him to give to friends and family members.
Sets will be available for purchase tonight in The Tiger’s Den at Dodd Stadium.
The Tigers are home tonight through Monday.
Photos From the 2011 New York-Penn League All Star Game
Many Tigers staff members attended the New York-Penn League All Star Game last night in Lowell.
The game was played at LeLacheur Park, home the Lowell Spinners.
Justin Sheinis, called the game on 1310 WICH as well as at www.cttigers.com,
while Bryan Barkley, the Tigers’ Director of Facilities and Turf Management, helped out on the field.
There was a pre-game autograph session for all players.
Tigers’ slugger Dean Green batted Cleanup for the American League Team.
Green had an RBI double in the 6th inning.
Pitcher Brennan Smith hurled the second inning for the AL.

The Tigers begin a 6 day homestand tonight with a visit from the Staten Island Yankees. The Tigers play 2 against the McNamara Division leaders tonight. Game 1 begins at 5:05 PM.
Pics From the Road: State College
This weekend, the Tigers visited “Happy Valley” for a 3 game series against the State College Spikes.
Medlar Field at Lubrano Park is located on the campus of Penn State University.
Built in 2006, the stadium became the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified stadium in the world.
The field is in the shadow of Beaver Stadium, home of the Penn State football team.
A packed house saw the Tigers take both games of the series. (The game on Sunday was rained out).
Tonight, Pitcher Brennan Smith and DH/1B Dean Green will represent the Tigers at the New York-Penn League AllStar Game in Lowell.
