“Hurricane Homestand” Recap: August 26, 27
First, the Tigers hope that everyone is safe following the visit of Hurricane Irene this weekend. (Photo from PrintActivities.com)
The Tigers were home Friday and Saturday with a cruical series against the Vermont Lake Monsters. The two home games, plus two games in Vermont tonight, have the potential to alter the Stedler Division standings. As of this morning, Connecticut sits a half game out of first place behind the Lake Monsters.

All children recieved a book from the Captain Underpants series, sponsored by Scholastic.
Covanta Energy collected non-perishable food items.
Comedian Roddy Thomas, sponsored by Comix at Foxwoods, performed
before the fireworks show following the Tigers victory.

Because of the storm, the Tigers moved the game up to 1:05 pm instead of the originally scheduled 7:05 pm.
Dean Green scored the only run for the Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers will begin the final homestand of the regular season this Tuesday with 3 games against Hudson Valley and 4 against the Lowell Spinners.


Friday’s game is a doubleheader with Game 1 scheduled to begin at 5:05.
Saturday will be Norwich Navigators Night
Sunday afternoon is Fan Appreciation Day.

Tails From the Road – Aberdeen
The Tigers have been in Aberdeen for the past few days, finishing up their 3-game road trip tonight.
The IronBirds play at Ripken Stadium
The stadium, built in 2002, has sold out all of its games since its opening

and is home to the Ripken Museum.
The stadium is part of a larger baseball complex, which includes Little League fields. The field above is a miniture Camden Yards. The Warehouse in right doubles as a Marriott, and is where the Tigers stay.
Team Sets
Today the 2011 Connecticut Tigers’ team sets arrived.
In addition to the numerous sets, Choice Sportscards , the manufactuer of the sets, sent 50 extra cards of each player.
These cards go to each player for him to give to friends and family members.
Sets will be available for purchase tonight in The Tiger’s Den at Dodd Stadium.
The Tigers are home tonight through Monday.



Pics From the Road: State College
This weekend, the Tigers visited “Happy Valley” for a 3 game series against the State College Spikes.
Medlar Field at Lubrano Park is located on the campus of Penn State University.
Built in 2006, the stadium became the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified stadium in the world.
The field is in the shadow of Beaver Stadium, home of the Penn State football team.
A packed house saw the Tigers take both games of the series. (The game on Sunday was rained out).

Tonight, Pitcher Brennan Smith and DH/1B Dean Green will represent the Tigers at the New York-Penn League AllStar Game in Lowell.

2011 New York-Penn League All Star Game

The 2011 New York-Penn League will be held in Lowell, MA on August 16th.
Tigers Pitcher Brennan Smith and DH/1B Dean Green will represent the Tigers at the Game.
Smith, despite having just one win all season, has been dominant on the mound for the Tigers. His 2.38 ERA currently ranks fifth best in the league, while he has thrown one of the five complete games in the league this season. Smith has thrown 53.0 innings, which is fourth most in the league. He has just 13 walks, compared to 44 strikeouts on the year.
Green is hitting .357 on the season, with four home runs and 24 RBI, as this story hits the press. His batting average has been in the top ten of the league over the past month and Green currently sits with the second best average in the league. Green was named the Detroit Tigers Minor League Player of the Month for July, as he hit .350 with five doubles, a triple, three homers and 16 RBI during the month.

Fun Patrol: August 13th Update
On Tuesday, C.T. appeared at the Crystal Mall in Waterford for a Simon Kidgits® Club event.
Thursday was the 2nd installment of the “Lunch with a Tiger” series.
Tigers’ players Zachary Maggard and Colin Kaline visited Buddy’s Dugout for “Lunch with a Tiger”.

Homestand Photos – July 7-11, 2011
The game will be made up in early September when Lowell returns to Dodd Stadium.

Luis Sanz threw 7 innings of 1-hit ball.
Tuesday’s game was postponed due to rain and made up as part of a Doubleheader on Wednesday.





The Tigers finished up the homestand with a shutout victory over Jamestown.
Starting pitcher Brennan Smith hurled 7 shutout innings
and DH/1B Dean Green hit two homeruns for the Tigers.
The Tigers travel to State College for a 3 game series before the AllStar Break.

Today a blood drive will be held at the stadium.
